That time of year....

It is the time of year, when it starts to cool down that I start to think about fall/winter clothing for the kids. It is such a hassle and usually takes a weekend to sort through all I have and come up with what I need. I don't want to do it. There is a huge lack of motivation around here to go through clothes....I really can't stand doing it. :)

BUT...I am so happy when it is all done.

With fall/winter clothes, comes SOCKS...we never wear socks in the summer...I hate socks. I hate the way they feel, and most of all....I HATE TO FOLD SOCKS. In the winter, I usually leave all the socks on the bed and my great husband, knowing I can't stand to fold them, will usually come in and start pulling socks out of clean laundry pile and begin to fold them. Some may ask, then why do I care if they are folded or not? I do care...I don't want to wear mis-matched socks or go through the hassle of finding mathcing socks in the morning....I just don't like to fold them.

Now I have a whole fall/winter to look forward to having to fold the socks...and sort and fold laundry by myself. It's just one of those small things that you don't realize about that other person until they are not around to do it. Although, I did acknowledge and thank Jesse plenty when he would come in and take over the sock pile!

Now...Connor has shown some interest in folding socks...hmmm :)

Themed Care Packages

Just a thought...Jesse, no promises that I will do this, but others might benefit :) Ha!
I should really more time to put some extra thought into the care packages I send. I love my husband and I think about him every day...I do not have time for fancy care packages right now. He has been gone for over 2 months, and I have managed to get 2 packages sent. The second being yesterday.

I think about cool and creative things to do and send, but when it comes down to it, I pack a misc. box filled with items and just send it. No bells and whistles.

I searched for care package ideas...I found so many great ideas. Here are some of the ideas I have had and found...and be assured, the possibilities are ENDLESS!

Themed Care Package Ideas:

Seasonal boxes: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer
-Include things like air freshners you might have in your home this time of year.
-Pictures from previous seasons
-Fall: pressed leaves, leaf art, deer hunting memorabilia.
-Winter: snowflake art, make your own SNOW kit, hot chocolate, cider mix, hot/cold mugs (saw them for $1 at Walmart), marshmallows, winter cookies and chapstick
-Spring: little pots with seeds (Target dollar section)
-Summer: Fishing, beach toys, mini blow up pool
Minnesota Misses YOU!: postcards, MN apparel, wildrice, anything on a stick, list of new places to explore in the state when soldier comes home.

Football Season: nerf balls, articles related the team, team schedule, sports apparel.

Halloween: A gingerbread haunted house ( all precut and ready to go) or they also make foam haunted house kits too!, scary mask, candy, fake spiders, webs, candy, costume, plastic pumpkins, and candy.

Thanksgiving in a box: Turkey Jerky, dried cranberries, candy corn, beef jerky or summer sausage = venison, potato chips = potatoes, canned veggies = veggies, dried fruits and assorted mixed nuts, assorted crackers or breadsticks = asst. breads, hostess fruit pies for the pies, cupcakes for cakes, you could even send some caramel sauce with shortbread cookies for the gravy! And kid's art.

Christmas: Send the tree and all the decorations. You can find miniature trees along with the decorations at the dollar store. This also ensures you won’t spend a lot of money in case he has to leave it behind. Be sure to send battery operated lights and don’t forget to include the batteries. Send a small stocking for him to have as well and of course include his gifts. You can also send Christmas CDs or your favorite Christmas movies. Also, you can send a gingerbread house kit. Kids art!

New Years: Party blowers, confetti, a plastic champagne glass with a promise to toast each other at midnight, any of those crazy year decorations you see people wearing in Times Square. Send enough for him and some of his friends too!!!

Valentines Day: This will be a package full of red! Candy hearts (even a handmade sign/card with the candy hearts spelling out a message), a book of photographs of you and the two of you together, a sexy pair of panties, a CD of songs you picked out especially for him, a book of love coupons (you can find these in most stores or make your own).

Anniversary: Celebrate another year by sending a CD of your favorite songs, a list of your favorite memories while you were dating or on your honeymoon or from your first years of marriage, a sappy and funny anniversary card, a detailed description of how you will celebrate your anniversary when he’s home.

St. Patrick’s Day: Good to be green. What better than to send your soldier lots of things for good luck. You can send paper shamrocks, a blarney stone, green beads (similar to Mardi Gras beads), green candy, green drink mix and a picture of you with the traditional “Kiss Me I’m Irish” saying on a shirt or button.

Easter: Peeps, jelly beans, plastic eggs, m&m's, stuffed bunnies. The dollar store is a great place to load up on this kind of stuff!

Birthdays: bday gift, cards, party favors.

Just yesterday, my husband requested I send more letters and such, not just boxes....I honestly hadn't thought about that. I email and FB with him, never thought about mailing things, the kids are always drawing him pictures. He likes to get mail...so if you are reading this, and have his address, a simple letter is always welcome! If you would like his address, send me a FB message!

Customs Forms and Post Offices....

Customs forms are nothing compared to trying to actually mail the packages.

I had a box all ready to go, and filled out the form in advance so I wouldn't have to worry about it while I was there. I got to the local post office and the person at the counter called me up. I handed her my form and box and she proceeded to tell me that I had to fill out more detailed information about what was in the box as she could not mail it as is. I had to write down everything I put in it and if I needed more than 4 lines, I would have to fill out additional customs forms. I told her I had mailed packages before and never had a problem. She said "oh well the rules have changed." She pulled out of piece of paper with a bunch of lines highlighted saying they needed more detailed information. I told her I wasn't going to do that since it is dangerous to do that. I would like my husband to get his $150 Nook...thank you.

I left that post office and went to the one in the next town over. I walked in and handed her my customs form...she said everything looked good and mailed it. I told her that my local post office wouldn't take it because it did not have enough detail, she said it looked fine to her, they do like some details but just said it might come back if customs did not accept it.

Why can't post offices just be on the same page and not piss off a military wife with 2 crazy kids in the post office just trying to mail her husband a care package. I don't have all the time in the world to get to the post office and I hate going there.

And with all the information we are told from people who send packages about how to fill out a customs forms, you would think the post offices would understand why you wouldn't go and fill out such detailed description of the package contents.

Introduction to the blogging word!

I have never done this, but thought I might give it a try as an outlet to much of the chaos of my everyday life.

I am an army wife, a mom of a 4 year old boy and 3 year old girl and a 4 month old puppy. Life is busy, crazy and hectic. My husband is at the beginning of his deployment, although I have to say, the first 2 months have flown by. I am also the co-coordinator for the Family Readiness Group (a support group for families in his unit). Even though its a volunteer position, I spend time on it like a full time job. But I love it, and that is why I do it. I have met great people and made wonderful lifelong friendships!

I am starting a new adventure (as if having a deployed husband was not big enough). It is my first year teaching as a special education teacher. I will be working with kindergarten special education students and I am excited beyond words and cannot wait for the school year to begin.

I enjoy crafting and reading. My favorite time of year is the Fall. I like to cook but enjoy eating out at restaurants more :)
